On a recent trip to Cub Foods in Roseville, one lucky Minnesota man won $2 playing Lotto America. He decided to reinvest his winnings and bought two more tickets. This time around, he won a lot more than he could have ever imagined when one of his tickets matched all six winning numbers to hit a $3.73 million jackpot.
“I was in disbelief,” he recalled after checking his ticket on mnlottery.com Tuesday morning. “I double checked the numbers, and then I texted my friend, and said, ‘Call me.’ “I told them not to tell anybody, but you know how that goes,” he said with a laugh.
The winner chose to take the $1.78 million cash option when he claimed his prize at Lottery Headquarters in Roseville. He said he’s looking forward to paying off his mortgage and being debt free. “I will probably buy a new car, too,” he said.
He went on to say that Lotto America is his game of choice. “If I play the lottery, it’s Lotto America,” he explained. “It’s cheaper — tickets are only a buck and I have a better chance to win.”
This was the third time Minnesota had a Lotto America jackpot winner since the game launched in 2017. The very first Lotto America jackpot was won in Minnesota on March 14, 2018 — the $22.8 million winning ticket was purchased at a Holiday Stationstore in Roseau. The second Lotto America jackpot, worth $21.6 million, was sold at Holiday Stationstore #395 in Ramsey on July 10, 2019.
