Gooseberry Falls is the gateway to the North Shore. Stop at the over-look on the Highway 61 bridge north of Two Harbors and you’ll get a spectacular view of the waterfalls on both sides. You can hike up the Gooseberry River to take in the Upper or Middle Falls or down the rocky gorge to the Lower Falls and the shore of Lake Superior.

Gooseberry Falls State Park features spectacular waterfalls, scenic overlooks and superb trout fishing. Find a quiet spot for a picnic or just hang out on the rocks and listen to the water rush by. Watch the ships out on the lake, skip rocks and hunt for Lake Superior agates.

While you’re in the area, stop by the Castle Danger Brewery for a pint or a growler full of some dangerously good ale.

Drive up the scenic highway to Split Rock Lighthouse State Park and hike the trails that look out over Lake Superior. Nearby Palisade Head offers breathtaking views of the lake and, if you're lucky, you might see some cliff climbers scaling the face.

Minnesota Landmarks

In 2020, the Lottery celebrated eight uniquely Minnesota Landmarks. The tickets featured Minnehaha Falls and Lake Harriet in the Twin Cities, Canal Park and Gooseberry Falls on the North Shore, Lake Bemidji and Lake of the Woods in Northern Minnesota, Lake Shetek in the Southwest and Lake Pepin in the Southeastern part of the state.

Each ticket scene was another beautiful reminder of how Lottery proceeds help benefit all areas of Minnesota.
